IN THEIR WORDS

We wanted our entire wedding party to be with us on our wedding weekend, so we rented a huge house on Hatteras Island. Jill and I had planned the entire weekend with kayaking, kite flying at the beach, a lighthouse tour, and a bonfire on the beach. But, as my grandma always said, “If you want to see God laugh, make plans.” It poured from the moment we arrived, and we moved the rehearsal indoors. No pool, no beach, no bonfire, no kayaking.

On our wedding day, the weather was still not cooperating, but Jill and I were debating on taking our chances. The sky cleared for a couple minutes then would open up in a deluge. Eventually we decided to move our ceremony inside, and it was lovely.

Bells and Whistles in the Flower Field did our amazing flowers and decorations, and Trujillo’s Catering provided the food and delicious desserts. After the ceremony, it cleared up just long enough for us to get a few pictures on the deck. We had dinner and dessert at the house with our guests, then moved the tables and turned on the music. Once our  guests left, we and the wedding party headed out to the hot tub, and we partied in the rain.
